Laser Sensors for the Mining and Metal Industry
Acuity lasers are used in many different applications in the mining industry. The AR1000, AR2000 or AR3000 long range laser sensors measure the position of heavy equipment very accurately and very fast. Applications for sensors in mining include the long range positioning and monitoring of carts, railcars, carriages and other heavy lifting equipment.
This application list is not intended to be exhaustive. The measuring tasks are by no means limited to these examples, they may be of interest to the interested party as a suggestion for similar or completely different applications.
Crane Positioning
Cranes can be automated and monitored using long distance laser rangefinders, helping to improve crash avoidance, automated retrieval, and maintain equipment efficiency.
Drill Pipe Length Measurement
When drilling down for oil and gas, the drill tower and drill are attached to a piece of pipe. One customer has used the internal module of the AR2500 laser sensor to notify workers to attach the next pipe to continue to drill deeper into the ground.
Drill Pipe Runout
Measuring the runout on cylinders is a simple task using laser displacement sensors. Align the laser path with the axis of rotation and collect your data at high speeds.
Silo Fill Level
Laser rangefinders can be mounted at the top of silos and aimed down at the surface to measure the fill level of the material in the silo. Due to the long operating range of the sensors, Acuity’s laser rangefinders are suitable for nearly any silo size.
Stockpile Height Measurement for Inventory Management and Overfill Prevention
Managers of bulk solids carefully monitor their stockpile height measurements for both overfill prevention and inventory management. These directors of heaped goods — such as grain, gravel, ore — are often looking for stockpile measurement with high-accuracy, non-contact methods.
