Laser Sensors for the Tire and Rubber Industry
Single point AR200 and AR700 laser sensors are used to measure on-line thickness of calendared rubber. Tire manufactures also use single point sensors to measure bulge and dent of tire sidewalls. Acuity laser line scanners like the AP820 are used to measure the tread and wear of tires at high rotational speeds.
This application list is not intended to be exhaustive usage list for sensors in tire and rubber manufacturing. The measuring tasks are by no means limited to these examples, they may be of interest to the interested party as a suggestion for similar or completely different applications.

Rubber Conveyor Belt Thickness
A year or two ago, a process engineer approached the Acuity team looking for a solution to measure the thickness of their rubber product directly on the production line. The customer was looking to measure the thickness of the material in a few locations – a common ask for thickness measurements.
Rubber Thickness Measurement
A rubber manufacturer monitors the thickness measurements using four sensors positioned at the top, 140 mm (5.5 in.) from the sheet surface. The rubber sheet lays across a roll cylinder. The top of the roller is the reference (zero) surface for thickness measurements.
