Measurement sensors are used for fast and accurate dimensional and distance measurement

From long range sensors to micron-level part and surface inspection, Acuity offers a wide range of measurement sensors.

Dimensions

Dimensional measurement with laser sensors often involves applications related to product tolerances, sorting processes, and part recognition systems. Product dimensions can be measured in different ways with Acuity Lasers. Acuity laser distance sensors can be used to measure the dimensions of a single point of objects to the complete dimensions of objects. Non-contact dimension measurement can be found in all applications and industries, including high speed factory automation applications. The dimensional measurement group contains laser measurement applications under the categories of diameter, fill level, length, profiling, thickness, and width measurements. Please select from the applicable dimensional category below.

Distance

Laser sensor distance measurement describes the measurement of distance from the beginning of the sensor’s range to the distance of the desired target. Non-contact laser distance measurement involves any application that needs precise and fast measurement at long measurement ranges or long standoff ranges. Utilizing laser triangulation sensors, non-contact laser distance measurement can be found in almost all applications and industries. The distance measurement group contains applications with under the categories of displacement measurement, gap measurement, height measurement, position measurement, and runout & vibration measurements. Please select from the applicable distance category below.

Measurement Types and Definitions

Diameter Measurement

The diameter of an object can be measured in different ways. A single point sensor can measure the diameter of an object if the center of the object is known or two single point sensors can measure the diameter if the center is unknown.

Displacement Measurement

Displacement, often used interchangeably with distance, measures the distance between the sensor and the target. Laser displacement sensors and confocal displacement sensors are ideal for any non-contact distance measuring applications.

Fill Level Measurement

Fill levels or level measurement can be done with displacement sensors. For precise level control measurement, confocal sensors or laser triangulation sensors are typically used to provide measurement solutions.

Gap Measurement

Gap measurement may be needed for precise monitoring or quality control in order to satisfy technical or visual requirements.

Fill Level Measurement

Fill levels or level measurement can be done with displacement sensors. For precise level control measurement, confocal sensors or laser triangulation sensors are typically used.

Height Measurement

Height measurement encompasses a variety of non-contact applications where different laser measurement sensors are used to measure the distance to the top of targets that pass beneath a sensor.

Length Measurement

For repeatable length measurements, replace manual tape measures with accurate data from our laser rangefinders and laser sensors.

Position Measurement

Laser sensors are often used to monitor position, control, and alignment of objects and targets. Laser triangulation sensors are typically used for precise position monitoring.

Profiling Measurement

Laser profiling of an object or target can be done with all Acuity sensors. Single point sensors are often used for road profiling and tire profiling. Laser scanners are most commonly used for 2D & 3D shape profiles of targets.

Runout & Vibration Measurement

When selecting a product to measure runout & vibration, accuracy and speed is critical. We have a variety of laser displacement sensors to help ensure the measurement is suitable for the amplitude and frequency of the target.

Thickness Measurement

When deciding the best way to measure thickness, it is important to consider factors such as the material target and type of measurement (range, accuracy, speed). Also, it is important to distinguish between one-sided and two-sided thickness measurement.

Width Measurement

Width measurement of an object is an important part of dimensional control. Often called thickness, it is often used to monitor the dimensions of products of assembly lines such as strip/slab metal thickness.
