Lumber measurement using a laser displacement sensor

The forest products industry is a regular user of Acuity laser sensor products for the measuring of logs,cants, lumber, veneer thickness, paperboard, etc.
The AR700 laser displacement sensors (previously used AR600 series) are commonly integrated into automated lumber finishing machines to measure board position, board dimensions and surface profiles. The AR600 laser masuring sensor is ideal for woods of varying colors and textures. The long-distance AR700 triangulation sensors offer a valuable stand-off distance, keeping the measuring equipment away from the quickly moving lumber and potential hazards.

The photograph is of a hardwood finishing mill. The process uses multiple long-range AR600 laser measuring sensors to take profiles and thicknesses of the wood boards.
