2D Laser Sensor for Profiling Connector Pin Heights

A manufacturer of multi-pin connectors has a requirement to verify the individual pin heights relative to the connector's metal edge. They approached Acuity for trial of the AccuProfile 620 laser profile sensor. This sensor emits a 2D laser line across which captures a linear profile across the tops of the pins and the connector's metal edge. Despite the highly-reflective surface of the pins, the sensor produced an excellent virtual representation from which it would be easy to measure the pin heights.

The AP620-7 model was chosen because of its finest resolution in the Z azis. The customer intendes to develop their own application software to scan in selected portions of the object and use machine vision algorithms to ascertain the necessary data from each scan.
